Warming hearts during heavy times

In a long line of cars to a cemetery on this chilly day, I asked a question of the driver: his favorite memory of the uncle we were mourning today.

The stories that poured forth glowed warmly with the lore of a lifetime ago that soothed the ache of the loss we all felt. They treated my ears and mind to scenes from a childhood that I might not have heard if I hadn’t asked that one simple question.

I’m glad I asked.
